Ridgeway School teacher George Tsuji selected as 2025 Hero in Education

Ridgeway School third-grade teacher George Tsuji has been selected as a 2025 Hero in Education by the Westchester East Putnam PTA, an honor that recognizes educators and community members who embody the PTA’s mission of supporting and empowering every child.

“Without a doubt, this is a very well-deserved and appropriate honor,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Joseph Ricca. “Thanks for all that you do to support our Tigers and the entire Ridgeway Elementary School community.”

Mr. Tsuji was nominated by Kelli Teglas of the Ridgeway Elementary PTA, who praised his leadership, kindness and constant willingness to support students and families.

“George exemplifies the qualities of a true leader and hero in education,” Ms. Teglas wrote in her nomination letter. “He consistently goes above and beyond in his commitment to students and their families and is always among the first to volunteer his time and support to the PTA. His unwavering dedication to ensuring that every child feels seen, heard and valued is unparalleled. The students of Ridgeway are deeply inspired by George’s compassion, professionalism and heartfelt commitment to their success.”

Mr. Tsuji, a graduate of White Plains High School, expressed his appreciation and said he was "so grateful to be part of this wonderful school community."

Ridgeway Principal Dr. Kimberly Crawford congratulated Mr. Tsuji for the "well-deserved recognition."

"You are a phenomenal educator, an outstanding member of our community, and an all-around great colleague. Your dedication and positive impact on students, families and staff truly make a difference every day," she said.

"Beyond the classroom, your willingness to take care of children extends far beyond the school day. You help us to always "FOCUS ON THE FUTURE" and live beyond our dreams. George, your support for the PTA and every student exemplifies your commitment to Ridgeway. You go above and beyond, and we are so grateful for everything you do to keep our school running smoothly and our community strong," Dr. Crawford added.

Each year, the Westchester East Putnam PTA invites its members to nominate teachers, administrators, local community members, parents, or volunteers “who truly honor the overall mission of the PTA, which is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.”

As a 2025 honoree, Mr. Tsuji will be celebrated at the organization’s Annual Winter Conference, scheduled for December 10, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at BOCES Southern Westchester Center for Career Services, 65 Grasslands Road in Valhalla, NY.
